Well, I never imagined this as a possible outcome when I first joined SL. I'd heard about SL for a while and read occasional articles on the web, usually about bizarre controversies going on between the residents.
It sounded interesting, but at the time you had to pay to join, and I didn't think it sounded *that* interesting. Eventually they allowed free memberships, and when I saw that I decided to give it a try. I honestly didn't expect to be on longer then a day or two. As it turned out, I doubt there was a day that I didn't spend at least some time in SL for many months.
As most of you reading this know, I decided from the start to use SL to explore aspects of my personality that I'd kept hidden in RL, even from myself for the most part. This had a lot to do with my staying around and getting so involved. I also found the almost unlimited possibilities of SL very attractive. Although I was definitely interested in the secual aspects of SL, I found myself shying away from really exploring them for a while. (Well, a week or two, anyway.) Instead I started going to as many building classes as possible, and started making some friends.
I forget how I first found the BDSM School... I recall that I had read references to xcite, and was curious how it worked. From what little I understood of how av's worked at first I really didn't understand what it was and wanted to find out. In fact, it actually took me a while to find the xcite store and understand what it was, but in my searches I stumbled across, first, some pretty sleazy pose ball places (due to their xcite compatibility), and somehow from there, I wound up at DeSade's a place that made some pretty extreme D/s equipment. Part of me was thinking, "People actually like this?", while at the same time, I was trying out every single piece of equipment and getting pretty excited. When someone else showed up I was tempted to run off, but they ignored me too. :-) Anyhow, I think that prompted a Search that led me to the School.
However, my first visit was a disappointment. I landed in the Advertising Hall, which was all escort ads. If there were teleports to other parts of the school (and I know there were later) I didn't see them. So I figured the place was pretty much a scam, and only called itself a school to lure people to visit. Nevertheless, at some point I visited again, and discovered the rest of the school. At the time, I figured it had been there for quite a while, and when I met Angelica and Aratis, I figured they were SL oldtimers. I eventually figured out that they had both only been in SL a month or two when I joined, but at that time, that was an oldtimer to me. :-)
On that second visit I didn't see anyone else there, though, I just explored the place.
...to be continued.
